The 3-Step Pain Reset™

Therapy Tools for Home Use

The exact Trigger Point Release Tools used in our Pain Guide or a guided session — nothing complicated or expensive required. Release → Heat → Move. Start with just a tennis ball.

These tools work best when used in the correct order: Release → Moist Heat → Stretch. Skipping steps or doing them out of order is the most common reason people don’t get lasting results. Read the full guide on why pain keeps coming back to understand why the sequence matters.

Step One

Release Tools — Trigger Point Work

Using a tennis ball against a wall to apply pressure to shoulder and back muscles for trigger point relief

Simple tools like a tennis ball help target tight areas safely

Before heat or movement can work effectively, restricted tissue must be addressed. Trigger point tools apply targeted pressure that signals the nervous system to relax, breaks up adhesions, and restores blood flow to starved areas.

Key tip: Hold pressure for 30–60 seconds on each tender spot. This is not aggressive — aim for 6–7 out of 10 discomfort. Breathing slowly and exhaling deeply is what triggers the release.

Step Two

Moist Heat — Recovery & Muscle Relaxation

Applying a moist heat pack to the neck or shoulders to relax muscles and improve blood flow

Moist heat penetrates 2–3× deeper than dry heat

After releasing tight areas, moist heat drives oxygen back into starved tissue and prevents muscles from locking back up. Apply immediately after tool work — this window is when heat is most effective and when your stretches will produce the best results.

Why moist heat specifically? Dry electric pads don’t penetrate the same way. Clay or gel-based packs retain heat 20–30 minutes and reach tendons, ligaments, and joint capsules. Use 104–113°F for 15–20 minutes. Always wrap in a damp towel — never direct to skin.

Step Three

Movement Tools — Prevent Pain from Returning

Simple stretching or foam rolling at home to improve movement and prevent pain from returning

Movement after heat retrains the nervous system pattern

With tissue released and circulation restored, targeted movement retrains the nervous system so the pain pattern doesn’t re-establish. This step is what separates lasting relief from temporary relief. Do it only after release and heat.

  • Foam rollers — legs, IT band, thoracic spine, calves
  • Floor mats — comfort for daily stretching routine
  • Basic stretches specific to your pain area — see the free guide below

Golden rule: Stay below 4/10 pain — mild ache is fine, but sharp or worsening pain means stop. Do 2× per day (morning and evening) after moist heat for best results.

You Don’t Need Everything to Start

A tennis ball or lacrosse ball (under $5)
A microwavable moist heat wrap ($15–$30)
A wall or floor space to work on
15–20 minutes and the free guide

Most people feel a difference the first time they do the full sequence in the right order.
